From a combination of pre-harvest passes and selective late picking, the Schaefers’ generic 2009 Riesling displays fresh, sappy apple and yellow plum, tinged with licorice and suffused with crushed stone. Vividly bright acids hold back 45 grams of residual sugar for a result that’s refreshing and positively gripping. This should be a delight to drink over the next 5-7 years, and quite possibly beyond even though, I realize, nobody is likely to test that. -88pts WA (DS)
